We have cause for a unique celebration this year. No county has ever held the Specsavers County Championship title and Kia Super League trophy at the same time – Surrey County Cricket Club are the first.

This is a proud Members’ club; a family of people devoted that work here and support a club they love that have had to wait a long time for this success and suffered a few false dawns along the way.

On this difficult 16-year journey since our last County Championship title, we have tragically lost two of our players and after two failed attempts to rebuild, we have now done it the right way.

There are so many excellent people now involved in the backroom setup that have led the Club to this glorious summer.

With Alec Stewart at the head of the group, Michael Di Venuto and Vikram Solanki have been joined by Darren Veness, Alex Tysoe, Geoff Arnold and Ryan Sidebottom to give our players the best chance to succeed.

On the women’s side, Ebony Rainford-Brent and the game’s first full-time Head Coach Richard Bedbrook have delivered excellent conditions for both the Women’s and Stars teams.

Achieving success on and off the field has always been our aim at Surrey. For so long we were able to celebrate one but not the other.

We have always seen the County Championship as the pinnacle of success for any county cricketer and only ten captains and 158 players in our 173-year history have won the Championship for Surrey.

This is just the start for this group and the players involved; many have already received international honours and England will continue to come calling for more and more.

Surrey County Cricket Club has got to be about trophies and producing England players. If you deliver one you should deliver the other – we have. But this has taken some time so thank you for your patience & your support.

There are no short cuts to success. To get to this point has taken sacrifice, courage, vision and a huge amount of hard work from a very special group of players and coaches.

For success you need the right environment – you need players with character. You need players that know how to win.

We now have that environment and we now have those players.

It has been a long time since the Surrey family felt this united and have so much to be happy with on and off the field.

To the players; I’d like you all to know what you achieved and how you achieved it was extraordinary and meant everything to this club and to me - a special club and a club we all serve.

Creating New History. It started this year. Long may that continue.

Being part of the Surrey family has never felt so special.
